Generations Series

Want to dig deeper into the music from our Signature series? The Generations series tells the story behind the music we play, as Edwin guides you through the masterpieces of classical music in these delightful Sunday afternoon concerts. It’s the perfect series for anyone who wants to learn how music works, and for families who want to introduce their kids (ages 10 and up) to the wonder of a symphony.

I love this series — it’s an invitation to our musical home, an informal gathering where we share our passion for music with you. Orchestral music is for everyone. hether you’re a seasoned veteran or a keen novice to the joys of classical music, this series will open your ears, minds, and hearts ... and let the music in.”

- Edwin Outwater

THE CURSE OF THE NINTH

The "Curse of the Ninth Symphony" is a superstition among composers implying that after their ninth symphony is written, they will die.  Mahler was obsessed with the curse, and even tried cheating it by labeling his symphonies with names instead of numbers. However, his efforts were in vain and he died after finishing his ninth symphony. Feel the power and emotion of this great composer’s final work.

BEETHOVEN'S NINTH

Just as Beethoven’s career ended with what many consider as his greatest achievement, so does the KWS’ season come to a close with his Ninth Symphony. This powerful concert, accompanied by the voices of local choirs and soloists, is the crowning achievement of the 08’09 season. Beethoven’s Ninth encompasses the theme of the Signature Series –“Big, Bold and Beautiful…a truly inspiring musical event.”
