We Love Our Volunteers!
The Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Volunteer Committee (KWSVC) originated in 1948 as the KWS Women’s Committee and evolved to become the KWS Volunteer Committee. The Volunteer Committee is an independent charitable organization closely associated with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony and works with that organization on many fronts.
Fundraising
Throughout the year the KWSVC holds a variety of events to raise funds which all go to the KWS. The Love of Music Marathon, the House & Garden Tour of Note, several card parties and the Showcase Boutique at Signature and Pops concerts are regular sources of revenue.
In addition, projects are held from time to time to augment our revenues:
- 2012 Leejay Levene calendar: The KWSVC is producing and will be selling the 2012 Leejay Levene calendar, an annual project supported by Leejay’s family in remembrance of Leejay and his interests in art and music. All funds from the sale will go to the KWS.
- Trips with a musical focus are organized at least once each year to North American and European locales. These tours are organized by travel agencies who give a portion of the revenue to the Volunteer Committee. The following have links with more information:
Scholarships
The KWSVC administers approximately $12,000 in scholarships to members of the Youth Orchestra, the Youth Sinfonia, the Youth Strings, the Preludium Strings and the Valhalla Brass which are all organized by the KWS Association.
